So seems all the fire themed elemental weapons have a special ability to deal a burst of elemental damage after so many hits.(don't quote me on this I'm still testing).

So I found something out about the Fire weapons, when you use them against the PROTEUS enemies when you kill them the first time that's it, they don't get back up, though I'm not 100% sure on that, so take my words with a grain of salt. Oh also aim for the head that might be the reason as well, but again, don't quote me on that.
